Chandigarh, Sept. 5 -- union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal today said metro services are expanding rapidly across the country and the network now covers 1,066 km across 24 cities, with another 970 km of service in the pipeline.

In contrast, the country had only 248 km of metro network in 2014 covering 5 cities.

Once the projects in the pipeline are completed, India will emerge as the world's number one country in metro service availability, he said, while addressing the gathering as the chief guest at the Gurugram Metro Bhoomi Pujan programme, organised by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited.
