Bengaluru, Oct. 23 -- India is developing a next-generation launch vehicle with a payload capacity of 75,000 kg to achieve a lunar landing by 2040, VSSC Director A Rajarajan said.
Speaking about the ambitious project, Rajarajan told reporters, "We have configured a lunar module launch vehicle, which is currently in the initial stages of design. This includes a 75,000 kg payload capability to Low Earth Orbit, and the design will undergo the appropriate approval processes before implementation."He added that the development plan envisages phased missions, beginning with launches using a conventional launch vehicle, followed by an augmented vehicle capable of carrying the lunar module.
