New Delhi, June 22 -- : India has crossed the five lakh mark in organ donation pledges, the Health Ministry announced on Monday, calling the milestone a reflection of increasing public awareness and willingness to support organ and tissue donation.

The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), under the health ministry, said that more than five lakh people have registered their willingness to donate organs after death. The organisation described the achievement as an important step towards addressing the gap between the demand for transplantable organs and their availability.
