Bhubaneswar, Aug. 28 -- The Odisha unit of the INDIA bloc on Friday announced a massive escalation of its agitation against the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, declaring that it will gherao the Odisha Legislative Assembly on September 29 and demand immediate repeal of the legislation.

The opposition alliance, which has termed the amended MMDR Act "anti-Odisha", accused the Centre of undermining the State's rights over its mineral resources and warned that the legislation could have serious economic and social consequences for Odisha, particularly for mining-affected people and tribal communities.
