Chennai, March 12 -- Two fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel on charges of poaching in their territorial water after crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) on Thursday morning.

The fishermen, hailing from Thangachimadam in Rameswaram island in Ramanathapuram district, were fishing in the high seas near Katchatheevu, an islet ceded to Sri Lanka though a pact in 1974, when they were arrested.

The arrested fishermen, J. Minitto Rayappan (26), and R. Sumanthan (29), of Thangachimadam had ventured into the sea when they were arrested and their fishing trawler impounded.

The Sri Lankan Navy personnel later took them and their tralwer to Talaimannar in the Island Nation.
