Chennai, Feb. 23 -- In a fresh incident, 12 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested late last night by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel while they were fishing in the high seas in the Palk Strait region, prompting Chief MInister M K Stalin to dash off a letter to External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar to secure their earlier release using appropriate diplomatic channels.
The fishermen, who had ventured into the sea from Pamban in Rameswaram in the southern Ramanathapuram district, when they were arrested along with their mechanised boat by the Sri Lankan Navy for fishing in their territorial waters after crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
