Aizawl, Aug. 24 -- Seeking to counter the perception of the BJP as a Hindu nationalist party in Christian-majority Mizoram, the party's state unit has sought to draw a distinction between Hindutva and Hinduism, saying the former represents Indian cultural identity and nationalism rather than a religious belief system.
The assertion was made by BJP Mizoram vice-president Lalduhawma at a political session held at the party's state headquarters here on Monday.
"Hindutva does not refer to the practice of Hinduism or even to being a Hindu. It is about the unity of India and the preservation of our culture," Lalduhawma said.
