Chennai, May 1 -- In a significant ruling consdering the welfare of a Muslim child as being paramount, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, exercising its parens patriae (a Latin term) jurisdiction, has appointed a Hindu couple, who had been taking care of its right from its birth for the past three years after adopting it with the full consent of its biological mother, as its legal guardian.
