Hubballi, March 14 -- Senior BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday termed the opposition's move to bring an impeachment notice against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as "political propaganda", asserting that the constitutional authority was working to strengthen electoral reforms.

Speaking to reporters, Shettar said attempts by opposition parties to initiate proceedings against the Chief Election Commissioner were aimed at creating unnecessary controversy around constitutional institutions.

He said the opposition had earlier moved a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birala, which failed, and was now resorting to fresh tactics for political messaging.
