Mumbai, July 17 -- The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Maharashtra chapter, has announced a 24-hour statewide suspension of routine healthcare services from 6:00 a.m. on July 20 in protest against the recent alleged assault on doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers at Shastrinagar Municipal Hospital in Dombivli in adjoining Thane district.
Condemning the incident, the IMA said violence against healthcare professionals while they are discharging their duties is an attack not only on individuals but also on the healthcare system.
As part of the protest, all routine outpatient department (OPD) services, elective surgeries and other non-emergency medical services will remain suspended across the state till 6 am on July 21.
