Keylong, July 11 -- In a major crackdown, the Lahaul-Spiti Police seized a large consignment of illicit liquor hidden beneath cement bags from a truck at Sarchu check post on July 10.
The truck, on its way from Mandi to Leh, was intercepted around 7:30 pm following a tip-off during routine patrolling and traffic checking.
On searching the vehicle in the presence of independent witnesses, the police recovered 235 crates of foreign liquor, each crate containing 12 bottles of 750 ml, cleverly concealed under 250 cement bags.
The driver, identified as Devendra (36), son of Kripal Singh, a resident of village Baga in Mandi district, failed to produce a valid permit for transporting the liquor.
