Hyderabad, Oct. 11 -- Strongly condemning the exclusion of women journalists from Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi's press conference in New Delhi, the Indian Journalists union (IJU) today demanded that the Indian government must take a strong stance against such blatant sexism and ensure protection of the rights of women.

In a statement, IJU president K Sreenivas Reddy and secretary general Balwinder Singh Jammu, expressed serious concern over the action of the Afghan minister, saying it is a stark reminder of the Taliban's deeply ingrained patriarchal values.

"It's appalling that such discriminatory practices were allowed on Indian soil, where our Constitution guarantees equal rights to men and women," it said.
