Kolkata, Sept. 26 -- The West Bengal government's tourism department has engaged IIT Kharagpur to prepare a comprehensive development plan and documentation of Bakura's famed terracotta temples for a possible UNESCO World Heritage Site nomination, Tourism Minister Dr Shankar Ghosh said on Friday.
The initiative is part of the state's wider effort to develop heritage destinations and create new tourism circuits beyond the established Darjeeling and Sundarbans routes.
IIT Kharagpur has been tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Bishnupur's temple town, covering the development of its heritage and temple tourism infrastructure.
