Bhubaneswar, July 8 -- A study by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has revealed a worrying rise in land surface thermal hotspots across Odisha, with several coastal districts recording an annual increase of 2 to 9 percent in hotspot coverage.
The researchers have called for region-specific climate adaptation measures to address the growing impact of rapid urbanisation, land-use changes and environmental degradation.
Published in Environmental Science: Advances, a prestigious journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the study was conducted by Dikshika Mahapatra and Dr. Debadatta Swain of the School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar.
