Washington, Aug. 3 -- Detentions by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reached their highest monthly level of President Donald Trump's second term in July, according to internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data obtained by CBS News, as the administration continues to widen its immigration enforcement operations across the country.
More than 46,000 people were taken into ICE custody last month over alleged immigration violations, including illegal entry and visa overstays, preliminary DHS figures showed, exceeding the roughly 43,000 detentions recorded in June, which had previously marked the administration's highest monthly tally.
