New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- The Indian Air Force on Wednesday placed its strategic transport fleet on standby as India prepares to extend humanitarian assistance to Nepal following a devastating flash flood that swept through the Bhote Koshi river system near the Nepal-Tibet border, leaving 30 dead and several hundred unaccounted for, and causing extensive damage to settlements and critical infrastructure.
A C-130J transport aircraft is expected to fly to Nepal with relief supplies, medicines and other essential material this evening, while a C-17 aircraft is scheduled to follow on Thursday, sources in the Ministry of Defence said.
