Pune, Oct. 6 -- The long-pending demand to include the Dhangar community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category has once again gained momentum.
Hemant Patil, National President of India Against Corruption (IAC), has raised this demand before the state government.
He asserted that "Dhangar" and "Dhangad" refer to the same community, and that the Dhangar community has been unjustly deprived of ST benefits due to mere clerical errors in official records. Patil urged that this situation be rectified immediately.
He expressed confidence that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has shown sensitivity and taken positive steps for the Maratha community, would likewise take an appropriate decision in favour of the Dhangar community.
