Hyderabad, July 11 -- The historic Lal Darwaja Bonalu festival commenced with grandeur and spiritual fervor today, as Hyderabad Police Commissioner and DG C V Anand, took part in the traditional Shikara Puja and Dwajarohanam (flag hoisting) ceremonies.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, he assured citizens that elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a safe and smooth celebration.

Highlighting the religious and historical significance of the Simhavahini Sri Mahankali Temple at Lal Darwaza, Anand recalled how the Bonalu tradition began over 120 years ago, following a devastating flood and plague in 1908.
