Mumbai, Dec. 31 -- The Shiv Sena (UBT)'s alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections has sparked a major revolt within the party, as hundreds of office-bearers resigned after being denied tickets under the new seat-sharing arrangement.

While senior leader Sanjay Raut attempted to downplay the crisis on Wednesday, calling the resignations a reaction from those "whose loyalty was only for a ticket," party insiders reported mounting dissatisfaction in core Sena bastions including Parel, Worli and Vikroli. Many leaders claim the tie-up with Raj Thackeray's MNS has slashed ticket availability, triggering a wave of dissent.
