Shimla, April 1 -- In order to strictly enforce the safety norms, Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday tabled a new bill 'Himachal Pradesh Lifts (Amendment) Bill, 2026' in the State Legislative Assembly to regulate increasing operations of lifts, escalators and travelators.

Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh introduced the bill which is likely to be taken up for discussion and passage on Friday, the last day of the ongoing Budget Session.

The proposed amendment bill seeks to widen the scope of the existing 2007 Act by bringing escalators and travelators under its regulatory framework, in view of their increasing use across urban centres and tourist destinations in the state.
