Shimla, March 30 -- The Himachal Pradesh government will carry out dredging at places where rivers are causing damage, particularly during the monsoon season.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement on Monday during the Question Hour in the state Assembly.

He also announced that the government would bring a policy to protect tractor owners from fines so that they are not challaned for mining done for their personal use.

Replying to a question asked by MLA Chander Shekhar in the absence of MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur, the Chief Minister said that the government has started dredging of the Beas River in Kullu on a pilot basis.

Sukhu said that if the experiment proves successful, it will be implemented across the state.
