Shimla, April 1 -- The Himachal Pradesh Government on Wednesday tabled a Bill in the Vidhan Sabha to amend the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Allowances and Pension of Members) Act, 1971, with the objective of discouraging defection among legislators.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also holds the Finance portfolio, while introducing the Bill, said that the existing Act provides for allowances and pension to Members of the Legislative Assembly but does not contain any provision to deter defection under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
