Shimla, Aug. 29 -- Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday passed amendments to the Municipal Council and Municipal Corporation Acts, allowing the state government to defer elections in newly constituted municipalities and corporations for up to two years.
The bills were moved and discussed by Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh in the absence of Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh and were passed by voice vote.
The amendments aim to accommodate rapid urban expansion, improve municipal services, and ensure proper administration in newly formed urban bodies.
