Amravati/Mumbai, Aug. 24 -- : Maharashtra Health Minister Prakashrao Abitkar on Monday said doctors and hospital staff made every possible effort to save newborns after a fire broke out at a government hospital in Amravati, while Opposition leaders demanded accountability and a comprehensive fire-safety review of hospitals across the state.

Expressing grief over the deaths of three infants, Abitkar said the incident was deeply painful and unfortunate.

He stated that medical personnel provided ventilator support and took all necessary measures to save the children, but their efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful.
