Puducherry, April 9 -- Creating history in its annals of electoral politics ever since it gained Independence and the first ever elections in 1964, a record all time high of 91.23 per cent turnout was recorded as the single phase polling to elect the new 30-member Puducherry Territorial Assemby which ended peacefully on Thursday evening.
Puducherry Chief Electoral Officer P Jawahar, releasing the final poll percentage tonight, said while 89.87 voters cast their ballots in EVMs in 1,099 polling booths, it swelled to a historic high of 91.32 per cent after adding 1.36 per cent polled through postal ballots.
