Hingoli, July 9 -- Hingoli district in Maharashtra was jolted by four consecutive earthquakes after midnight, triggering panic among residents.

The strongest tremor, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, struck at 1.37 a.m. on Thursday. Its epicentre was located near Pangra Shinde village in Vasmat taluka at a depth of 10 km.

Three more tremors followed - a 3.6-magnitude quake at 2.15 a.m., a 3.9-magnitude quake at 2.17 a.m., and another mild tremor at 3.23 a.m. The epicentres of the second and third quakes were located in the Kakaddhaba area.

The tremors were felt across Hingoli city, Vasmat, Kalamnuri and Aundha Nagnath, as well as in parts of the neighbouring districts of Parbhani and Nanded.
