Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), Aug. 15 -- The Himachal Pradesh government plans to procure 1,000 new buses to strengthen the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet, while also exploring the operation of 200 hydrogen-powered buses in the state, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said.
Speaking to reporters after flagging off 35 electric buses at the Hamirpur bus stand, Sukhu said the government was working to modernise public transport and make HRTC financially self-reliant while reducing its environmental impact.
The Chief Minister said the state had already procured 297 electric buses for HRTC. He said the operating cost of an electric bus was around Rs 38 per kilometre, compared with Rs 70-75 per kilometre for a diesel bus.
