Shimla, April 25 -- The Himachal Pradesh government has set a plantation target of 4,000 hectares under the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojana (RGVSY) for the current financial year, aiming to further strengthen its twin focus on employment generation and environmental conservation.
The scheme, launched last year, has already shown encouraging results with nearly 300 women's groups, 70 youth groups and 75 other self-help groups undertaking plantation activities across about 1,100 hectares of land.
Building on this progress, the Forest Department plans to engage around 1,100 community groups during 2026-27. Of these, 60 per cent will comprise women's groups, 20 per cent youth groups and the remaining 20 per cent other self-help groups.
