Shimla, July 4 -- Himachal Pradesh has launched the next phase of rural sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), with around 7,000 villages set to benefit from a scientific faecal sludge management initiative through co-treatment facilities at existing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
A government spokesperson of the Rural Development Department said on Saturday that after successfully achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, the state has shifted its focus to ensuring the safe collection, transportation, treatment and scientific disposal of faecal sludge generated from septic tanks and single-pit sanitation systems in rural areas.
