Shimla, Nov. 19 -- Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday admitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging unchecked commercial use of the historic Thodo Ground in Solan by the Solan Municipal Corporation.
The petition, filed by local residents led by Kushal Jethi, asserts that the ground, traditionally reserved for community and recreational activities, is being diverted for profit-oriented events in violation of its public character.
The matter was taken up by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia and Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj.
Thakur submitted that the Thodo Ground, measuring 00-64-60 hectares on Rajgarh Road, has for decades served as a key open space for sports, yoga, morning walks, and cultural gatherings. ...
