Shimla, Dec. 27 -- : From 'wild weed' to a regulated industrial crop, the Himachal Pradesh government has moved to redefine the economic and agricultural potential of industrial hemp.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has outlined a clear policy framework to promote its controlled cultivation for industrial, scientific and medicinal purposes.

The initiative, part of the state's broader vision of a self-reliant Himachal by 2027, aims to transform cannabis from an illegally traded substance into a regulated bio-resource contributing to rural incomes, industrial growth and the state exchequer.
