Shimla, Sept. 2 -- As heavy rains batter Himachal Pradesh wreaking havoc, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has officially declared the state as disaster-hit due to extensive damage.

Sukhu while making an announcement in the Himachal Assembly on Monday, stated that the state would remain under disaster status until the end of the monsoon season, after which the notification will be withdrawn.

He informed that all deputy commissioners have been directed to act under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, and necessary orders have already been issued.

The Chief Minister said that cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides during the ongoing monsoon had caused unprecedented destruction across Himachal.
