Shimla, May 31 -- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu rejected the BJP's claim of having secured a sweeping mandate in the recently concluded urban local body elections, asserting that the Congress had emerged ahead in the overall tally across the state.
Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, Sukhu said elections were held in 51 urban local bodies, including Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Parishads, and maintained that the Congress had secured control of 29 bodies against 21 won by the BJP.
"The BJP is celebrating victories in Municipal Corporations, but the overall results tell a different story. Congress has won more urban local bodies than the BJP," he said, questioning the claims.
