Shimla, June 5 -- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today launched the first phase of a Chinar plantation drive from his official residence, Oak Over, on the occasion of World Environment Day, underscoring the state's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The plantation drive aims to enhance green cover across the state and create greater public awareness about environmental protection. The Chinar tree, known for its majestic appearance, dense shade and ecological significance, has been identified as suitable for Shimla's climatic conditions.
