Una, Nov. 3 -- Terming the sale of unlicensed tobacco products as a "punishable offence," Himachal Pradesh's Una Municipal Corporation has slapped stringent fines on the violators.
Joint Commissioner Manoj Kumar has said shopkeepers can be fined up to one lakh rupees for selling tobacco, cigarettes, bidis, gutkha, or other nicotine products without a licence.
Additionally, a fine of up to Rs 15,000 has been imposed for selling loose cigarettes or bidis.
The Joint Commissioner said that this step has been taken to discourage youth and children from tobacco use and to keep the municipal corporation area clean and tobacco-free.
