Mumbai, March 10 -- Heatwave conditions have prevailed in Mumbai and neighbouring districts of Thane and Palghar as temperatures continued to rise in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, marking a sharp rise in daytime temperatures at the beginning of the week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the temperature is likely to remain around 38 degrees Celsius on Tuesday as well.
Meteorologists attributed the heatwave conditions to hot winds blowing from eastern regions towards the Konkan coast. They said an anticyclone over Rajasthan and Gujarat is pushing warm air towards Maharashtra, leading to a rise in temperature.
