Malappuram, Sept. 4 -- The Kerala Health Department has launched an intensive awareness campaign in Malappuram district to discourage home births and promote hospital deliveries.
The initiative, which began on World Health Day (April 7) has already shown, with a sharp drop in home births. According to health sources, 61 home births were reported between January and March 25 in January, 13 in February and 23 in March.
In April when the campaign began, this number dropped to six, followed by just three in May, four in June, and five in July, 2025.
The campaign was triggered by the death of a woman in Kodur during a home birth delivery.
