Nagpur, July 14 -- : The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has upheld an individual's "right to be forgotten" as a component of the fundamental right to privacy, directing the deletion of a man's name and personal details from online court records after criminal proceedings against him were quashed.
A division bench of Justices Urmila Joshi Phalke and Nivedita Mehta observed that once criminal charges against a person are set aside, there is no overriding public interest in allowing details of such proceedings to remain permanently available on the internet.
