Kolkata, June 17 -- : In a significant judgement, the Calcutta High Court directed that previously issued eviction notices in lands adjoining Railway stations including at Ballygunge, Bamangachi, Baruipur, Dankuni, Guma, Bongaon, Durganagar, Mathurapur and Jadavpur cannot be implemented afresh till June end.
The order was passed on Wednesday in connection with 25 cases relating to the eviction of alleged encroachments from railway land.
Hearing the matters, the court observed that no eviction should be carried out at this stage.
It directed the Railways to examine land records and location details and explain in each case why eviction notices had been issued.
