Mumbai, July 31 -- The Bombay High Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) corporator Ramesh Mhatre, arrested for allegedly assaulting doctors and nurses at the Shastri Nagar Civic Hospital in Dombivli, observing that the investigation is still in progress.

The court held that bail could not be granted at this stage as several crucial aspects of the probe remain pending.

The matter has been adjourned to August 6, while Mhatre will continue to remain in judicial custody.

Mhatre was arrested on July 9 after he and his supporters were accused of assaulting medical personnel at the hospital in Thane district.
