Chennai, Aug. 6 -- The George Town Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Chennai today issued a Non-Bailable Warrant against senior DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Minister K. Ponmudi and directed the police to produce him before the court by September 2, in connection with a hate speech case linked to alleged controversial remarks on Saivism, Vaishnavism, and women aimed at hurting religious sentiments and promoting hatred.
In April 2025, then Tamil Nadu Minister Ponmudy delivered a controversial speech in Chennai targeting Saivites, Vaishnavites, and women. The remarks sparked massive public outrage, leading to his removal from the DMK party post and his eventual dropping from the state Cabinet.
