Hassan, July 19 -- Hassan district on Sunday turned into the focal point of elaborate preparations for the last rites of Chennamma, wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, with the Karnataka government gearing up to accord full state honours at her funeral on Monday.

Authorities made extensive arrangements at the foothills of Ranganathaswamy Betta near Mavinakere, close to the Gowda family's native Haradanahalli village, where the cremation will take place. Barricades, public viewing enclosures, parking facilities and traffic diversions were put in place as thousands of mourners, political leaders and JD(S) workers are expected to attend.
