Panchkula, Aug. 5 -- The Haryana Sahitya Akademi conferred its prestigious Mahakavi Surdas Samman on eminent Hindi satirist and senior poet I J Nahal, honouring him at his Panchkula residence after health issues prevented him from attending the state-level ceremony in Rohtak last month.

Prof Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Akademi and former Vice-Chancellor, along with Member Secretary Manjit Singh, presented Nahal with a citation and ceremonial shawl. They described the award as recognition of his outstanding contributions to Hindi literature over several decades.
