Panchkula, June 13 -- Haryana's power distribution network suffered extensive damage after a powerful storm and high-speed winds battered large parts of the state, uprooting or damaging as many as 13,277 electricity poles and disrupting power supply in hundreds of villages.

With restoration work underway on a war footing, Energy Minister Anil Vij on Friday directed officials to ensure the earliest possible restoration of electricity services in all affected areas.

Taking serious note of the widespread disruption, Vij said the state government and power utilities have launched a large-scale restoration drive to minimize inconvenience to consumers and bring the electricity network back to normalcy at the earliest.
