Jerusalem, Aug. 31 -- Hamas confirmed the death of its Gaza military commander Mohammed Sinwar, months after Israel had claimed that the IDF troops had 'eliminated' him in a precision airstrike back in May.

The terror group issued photographs of Sinwar alongside other senior figures, calling them "martyrs," but gave few details surrounding his death. Israel had targeted him in a precision strike on Khan Yunis earlier this year, which it said was at the time- the command and control centre of the group, reports Times of Israel.

After its attack, Jerusalem declared the strike to have been a success with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating that Sinwar had been killed, though Hamas had until now refused to acknowledge the loss.
