Chandigarh, Dec. 28 -- Punjab's Gurdaspur city witnessed an unusual yet touching example of human-animal bonding after a local family performed traditional Sikh religious rites following the death of their pet parrot pair.
The family organised prayers at a gurdwara and arranged community meals, treating the loss of the birds with the same respect accorded to a family member.
According to the family, Babli and Ashok Kumar of Prem Nagar locality had adopted the parrot pair nearly seven years ago. They named the birds Moon and Pihu and gradually grew deeply attached to them, considering them an integral part of their household rather than just pets.
