Ranchi, Sept. 4 -- Former Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand, Mahesh Poddar, has described the recent GST Council decisions as a major structural reform rather than a mere exercise in reducing tax rates.
Poddar said the Council's two-day meeting, which concluded in a single day with unanimous consent from all states, had reaffirmed GST as a "dynamic framework of economic reform"instead of just a tax collection system.
"Such consensus in India's federal structure was earlier unimaginable," he remarked.
According to him, the simplification of GST registration, quicker refund processes, and improved compliance rules would ease cash flow problems and provide a fair environment for honest taxpayers.
