Belagavi, Nov. 4 -- Karnataka BJP President and MLA Vijayendra Yediyurappa today lashed out at the state government for its indifference towards rain-affected farmers, pointing out that while sugarcane and its byproducts generate over Rs 50,000 crore in revenue for the state each year, the Congress government has failed to support the very farmers who sustain this industry.

He reminded that sugar mills in Karnataka crush nearly six million tonnes of cane annually, producing molasses and ethanol that bring substantial tax income to the exchequer.

"Despite this, the government has ignored the distress of farmers devastated by heavy rains across North Karnataka," he charged.
