Imphal, Aug. 30 -- Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, accompanied by the First Lady, Jyoti Bhalla, visited Andro town in Imphal East District today and visited Sanapokpa Andro Panam Ningthou Meihoubirol, where they offered prayers at the sacred fireplace where a fire has been burning for over 2,000 years.
The sacred fire of Andro is preserved and maintained by Meitei living in Andro for almost 2,000 years without a break.
A system still exists where the ancient fire is maintained by villagers of the village in a rotation basis.
