Aizawl, June 1 -- Concerned over the growing impact of chemical-intensive farming on soil health and food quality, Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Monday launched the nationwide 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan' in Aizawl, urging farmers and agricultural experts to work together to protect the state's agricultural land through scientific and sustainable farming practices.
Launching the campaign at Lok Bhavan, the Governor said excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in pursuit of higher crop yields has contributed to soil degradation and raised concerns over human health. He stressed the need to adopt balanced fertilizer application based on soil testing and gradually transition towards natural farming methods.
